Anointed in Training
1 Samuel 16:12b And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
I have been blessed to be apart of a Bible study about King David and God’s anointing on him to be the King of Israel. What most of us know about David, is that he was a little boy that was the keeper of his father’s sheep, whom God anointed as king, (1 Samuel 16:11-12.) We all learned at an early age that God choose David because of his heart and not his outward appearance, (1 Samuel 16:7.) The story of David and Goliath has been taught to many children throughout years in Sunday school, (1 Samuel 17:48-51.) The other side of David’s story is one that we don’t spend a lot of time focusing on. That is what he did to occupy twenty two years of waiting, from the moment God anointed him to be king until he actually became king over all of Israel. After God anointed him king, he went right back to continue being the keeper of sheep. While his older brothers fought on the front lines in battles, David would be sent out to take them food, (1 Samuel 17:17-18.) When Saul needed rest from the evil spirit that took up resident in his heart after David’s anointing, he was called to play a harp to smooth the king, (1 Samuel 16:14-19.) Even though God anointed David to be king, He still had to prepare His servant’s heart, by teaching him that in order to lead other’s he first had to serve them. One of the questions that was ask in my bible study, is what season am I in that God is using to prepare me for what He has anointed me for? Mine like many is the season of being a stay at home mom raising children. These last few weeks I have been reflecting and praying on how God is using this season in my life to prepare me for the service He has handpicked me for. This morning while face down on my knees, God revealed to me my season, “Galatians 5:22-23,” The Fruits of Spirit. I can not serve outside of my home, if I can not first serve in my home with the fruits of the spirit toward my husband and children. What service God is preparing me for, I must first serve at home to my family.

Most Gracious Heavenly Father I praise You that You Lord have handpicked me and anointed me as Your child for a specific purpose in Your kingdom. Lord I know that I am in a season of being prepared for what You have anointed me for. I pray to surrender to this season and allow You to do great works in me and teach me through my Holy Spirit the fruits of spirits toward my family first, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
